A refreshed Chery Tiggo 9 has been revealed in Beijing, but it’s unclear yet when it’s coming to Australia… and what it’ll be called.
The confusion lies in Chery selling the Tiggo 9, Tiggo 9X, Fulwin T9 and Fulwin T10 in China.
The Tiggo 9X and Fulwin T9 share the same body as the Australian-market Chery Tiggo 9 and offer petrol and plug-in hybrid power respectively, while the Chinese-market petrol Tiggo 9 and plug-in hybrid Fulwin T10 use the same body as the local Jaecoo J8 as the Omoda Jaecoo brand isn’t offered in China.

It’s more likely, then, that we’ll eventually see this new Chery Tiggo 9 as the Jaecoo J8, though Chery and Omoda Jaecoo Australia haven’t confirmed local availability.
“Given the model has only launched in Beijing [on April 22], there are no confirmed plans for Australia at this time,” said a company spokesperson.
The refreshed Chinese-market Tiggo 9 shares the same 2820mm wheelbase as the Jaecoo J8, but features revised styling front and rear with refreshed lighting elements, and what appear to be new bumpers.
More significant changes can be found inside the cabin, where the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen have been replaced by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a huge 30-inch 6K ultra-high-definition screen with a thin bezel.
There’s also a new-look steering wheel.
The base grade in China gets an eight-speaker sound system, while others get a system with a whopping 23 speakers.
Standard equipment across the range includes a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, and power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation.
Other available luxury features include massaging front seats, 256-colour ”waterfall-style“ ambient lighting and a fragrance system.
Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 192kW of power and 400Nm of torque, mated with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.
Those outputs are up 9kW and 15Nm on the current Jaecoo J8, which is offered exclusively with an eight-speed auto.
All Chinese-market Tiggo 9s come standard with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension with Continuous Damping Control, while there’s a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
The Tiggo 9 is also available with the Falcon 500 suite of active safety and driver assist technology, with features such as semi-autonomous parking assist with memory, forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking, reverse cross-traffic assist, and Level 2 autonomous driving capability.
All five-seat variants have eight airbags, with seven-seat variants gaining an additional two airbags. There’s also a 360-degree dashcam.
In Australia, the Jaecoo J8 arrived in mid-2025 exclusively with petrol power – though Omoda Jaecoo Australia has previously confirmed it’s looking at adding a PHEV option. The Chery Tiggo 9 followed late in 2025, exclusively offered as a plug-in hybrid.
The two vehicles differ slightly in external dimensions (the J8 has a 70mm longer wheelbase), as well as interior styling. Naturally, they feature different front- and rear-end styling from each other, too.
Omoda Jaecoo is a sister brand to Chery, and while it’s been referred to as a “step up”, it’s not explicitly marketed as a premium brand.
If this strategy doesn’t make sense to you, the Chinese-market history of these two separate vehicles (or four if you count the PHEVs separately!) is even more convoluted.
The Tiggo 9X was previously known as the Tiggo 8L, and the Fulwin T10 was known as the Fulwin T9… which is now the name used by what we know as the Chery Tiggo 9.
