The more luxurious, the more powerful, and the more expensive version of the Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer, is also a lot more than just a big brother in the Jeep family. Tasked with taking on formidable foes like the Escalade, Navigator, and even the GLS, the Grand Wagoneer traces its roots back several decades to 1984, when the Jeep FSJ was rebranded and equipped with the latest features of the time. After some semblance of initial success, the reception mellowed down, and by the early 1990s, the Grand Wagoneer SJ was replaced by the Grand Cherokee, largely because of poor fuel efficiency and high maintenance costs impacting sales.

It wasn’t until 2021, nearly three decades later, that Jeep launched seven-seater SUVs in the form of the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer. This may be a more mellowed version of the previous 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six, which produced 540 horsepower and offered 521 pound-feet of torque. But that one second extra to go from zero to 60 mph (from five seconds to six seconds now) is more than made up for by an improved fuel economy of an estimated 16 mpg within city limits, up from 14 mpg previously. Do note that EPA hasn’t released the official fuel economy of the 2026 model at the time of writing.

Not impressed yet? The latest Grand Wagoneer also gets a range-extended electric powertrain, which combines a 3.6-liter V-6, 130-kWh generator, 92-kWh battery pack, and electric motors at each wheel. The power output is at 647 horsepower, and there’s 620 pound-feet of torque for the taking. Zero to 60 mph, did someone ask? Five seconds! So while the Grand Wagoneer with the standard engine is practical for daily commutes, its hybrid pack makes it quite the effortless mile muncher.

The Grand Wagoneer isn’t the most popular luxury SUV in the American market. It never has been. There are several factors that have plagued it in the past, including:
