The Ford F-150 has been recalled to address a software issue that may impact its towing ability.
“Due to a software defect, the Trailer Module (TRM) may lose communication with the vehicle when a trailer is connected,” Ford Australia says in its recall notice.
“This can result in a loss of trailer braking performance and the turn signal lights not operating as intended.
“A loss of trailer control whilst driving and/or signal lights not operating as intended, may increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

- A total of 6832 vehicles are affected, produced between 2021 and 2026
- The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list is attached here
- The original recall notice is attached here
If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with an authorised Ford dealer to have the TRM software updated, free of charge.

This is the latest recall for the F-150, which has been the subject of several since it was officially launched by Ford Australia in 2023, along with multiple stop-sales. Here’s a breakdown:
- November 2025: Ford recalled 3166 F-150s due to fuel vapour lines potentially coming into contact with the coolant hose and sparking a fire.
- January 2024: Ford stopped sales and deliveries of the F-150 due to a turbocharger issue.
- January 2024: Ford recalled 443 examples of the F-150 due to a remanufacturing issue with the steering intermediate shaft.
- January 2024: Ford recalled a further nine examples of the F-150 due to an issue with the steering wheel clock spring assembly weld.
- March 2024: Ford recalled 2020 examples of the long-wheelbase F-150 due to exterior lighting that didn’t meet Australian standards.
- April 2024: Ford stopped deliveries of the F-150 to its dealers.
- May 2024: Ford stopped sales and deliveries of the F-150 to customers and offered compensation to certain customers.
- May 2024: Ford recalled 4630 examples of the F-150 to rectify non-compliant exterior lighting.
- June 2024: Ford offered further compensation to F-150 owners following the issuing of recalls for non-compliant lighting.
- July 2024: Ford issued a further four recall notices, addressing non-compliant lighting (again) plus non-compliant autonomous emergency braking. 2070 vehicles were included across these recalls.
- June 2025: F-150s were included in a recall of close to 30,000 Fords across multiple model lines due to a software issue with their reversing cameras.
- July 2025: Ford temporarily paused sales and deliveries of the F-150, an order it subsequently lifted in October.
- August 2025: Ford recalled 6413 examples of the F-150 (ie: every example it had sold in Australia), due to rear wheel hub bolts that could become loose or break.
It’s worth noting that not all of these recalls are exclusive to Australian-market remanufactured F-150s, with the rear-axle hub bolt issue also triggering a recall in the US.
