The 2027 Audi A2 e-tron could eventually make it to local showrooms, serving as an entry-level electric vehicle (EV) for the brand.

Representatives from the German automaker say the forthcoming electric hatchback may have a place in the local model lineup, given the increasing demand for smaller EVs.

“We’re evaluating that product,” an Audi spokesperson told CarExpert.

“It’s been announced globally, [and] where we do see an opportunity in the marketplace is to have a compact EV. There is a lot of growth in that segment.”

Aside from a teaser, the A2 has yet to be unveiled by Audi, however the model is expected to ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture, shared with the likes of the sporty electric Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID.3.

The MEB platform has a wide range of batteries and electric motors available, with the ID.3 offering 45 to 79kWh of usable storage – translating to between 330 and 670 kilometres of driving range.
