Subaru Australia has confirmed pricing and opened pre-orders for its third electric vehicle (EV), the Uncharted, ahead of its expected mid-2026 launch.

The Uncharted will be available in a single variant priced at $59,990 before on-road costs, making it Subaru’s cheapest EV to appear in local showrooms thus far. It slots in below the Solterra, Subaru’s first EV, which now starts at $61,990 before on-roads after a price cut announced today.

Like its larger Solterra and Trailseeker EV stablemates – forming Subaru’s so-called ‘Sport Electric Vehicle’ (SEV) range – the Uncharted is twinned with a Toyota EV. In this case, it’s the C-HR+ small electric SUV that’s also coming to Australia, albeit much later than the Subaru in mid-2027.

Once it arrives, the Uncharted will compete with other compact electric SUVs like the BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia EV3, though its price is more closely aligned with the top-spec versions of each.

It seems likely the Uncharted will follow the Solterra in being built by Toyota in Japan, rather than by Subaru, which builds the Trailseeker and its bZ4X Touring twin. Unsurprisingly, the Uncharted has much in common with the other modern Toyota/Subaru EVs.

Australian models will be fitted with a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery sourced from Chinese manufacturer CATL, enabling a claimed electric driving range of 522km on the WLTP cycle. It can support DC fast charging at up to 150kW, with a 10-80 per cent charge claimed to take 30 minutes.

Though a cut-price front-drive option is available in the US, Australian-delivered models will exclusively feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration, in keeping with all local Subarus except the BRZ. Subaru still calls this ‘Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive’ despite the lack of a mechanical driveshaft between the front and rear axles.

This powertrain produces a peak power output of 252kW, giving the Uncharted a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of around five seconds. It also enables the inclusion of Subaru’s dual-mode X-Mode for off-road driving, incorporating Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control.
