The Honda HR-V has received a new flagship e:HEV RS hybrid variant, offering minor cosmetic tweaks for an extra $1500 over the e:HEV L that previously topped the range.

Pricing is unchanged for the carryover members of the small SUV lineup, which haven’t received any specification changes.

Available to order now, the new HR-V e:HEV RS is priced from $44,400 drive-away, undercutting similarly specified rivals including the Hyundai Kona Hybrid Premium (from $45,950), and the Toyota Corolla Cross Atmos Hybrid 2WD (from $47,990) – both rivals are priced before on-road costs.

The RS is distinguished externally by a unique grille finished in Bernina Black, along with blacked-out lower front bumper trim, door garnishes, mirror caps and 18-inch alloy wheels. It’s also available in an exclusive Crystal Black exterior finish, while inside there are unique red stitching details.

Honda has been expanding the number of hybrid variants within its lineup, and expects more than 80 per cent of its sales this year to be of hybrid models.
