Taking that as a pre-requisite, we’ve scoured through brands to come up with 10 naked bikes that promise at least one of these things in their respective segments. At the same time, we’ve tried to include everything from sub-400cc pocket rockets to over-1000cc hyper nakeds. Let’s dive in.

Yamaha MT-03

What you’re looking at is the most powerful motorcycle under $5,000, regardless of the segment. You’re essentially getting comparable performance to bikes over $5,500 for this price. This is a title the MT-03 has held for quite some time, too, even after its recent updates. For reference, the update has brought new styling (sharper and sleeker) and a new LCD with smartphone connectivity.

Barring these, the mechanical package has been unchanged for around a decade. You get a 321cc parallel-twin engine with 41 hp. It sits inside a steel tubular chassis, suspended on slim telescopic forks and monoshock. These help it tip the scale at under 375 pounds fully fueled.

Ever since its inception, the 390 Duke has been one of the most fun machines in its segment. In its latest avatar, things are even better. It punches above its weight by netting you premium suspension and features. The 43 mm USD forks and monoshock come with tool-less adjustability, which is something not even middleweight bikes like the Yamaha MT-07 offer.

As for features, a crisp TFT is front and center. It lets you enjoy smartphone connectivity, so you can toggle through calls and multimedia on the fly. Additionally, ride modes, traction control, launch control, and ABS settings are present, too. We also dig the attention to detail here, such as light wheels, forged aluminum footpeg hangers, backlit switchgear, and all-LED lights.

CFMoto’s USP has been its uber-competitive pricing strategy. And the 675NK is a prime example of that. At $7,499, the middleweight naked costs less than all of its rivals, while being just $1,100 pricier than the Kawasaki Z500 SE ABS. There’s no compromise on equipment, though.

The 675cc, inline-triple engine gets you almost 100 hp, along with a beautiful exhaust note. It sits in a steel chassis, which suspends on adjustable USD forks and monoshock (both from KYB). Monobloc calipers, standard ABS, traction control, and ride-by-wire further sweeten the pot.

Honda CB750 Hornet

Price: $7,999

The CB750 Hornet is one of the most impressive Honda naked bikes in recent times. There are a few reasons for that, chief among which is the overall value. At $7,999, it is priced like a Chinese bike, while promising premium Japanese engineering, build quality, and equipment. These include E-Clutch, Showa suspension, and Nissin brakes, alongside a full suite of rider aids. The latter comprises five ride modes (Sport, Standard, Rain, User 1, User 2), three engine brake modes, three engine power modes, and three traction control modes.

Finally, there’s the 755cc parallel-twin engine. It has a 270-degree crank and a counterbalancer to promise a smooth and versatile ride. At the same time, the output is 90 hp–one of the highest in the parallel-twin middleweight naked class.

CFMoto 800NK

Price: $8,699

If you want a proper street hooligan, the CFMoto 800NK might just be the best machine around the $8,500 mark. Much of that is down to its KTM-sourced 799cc, parallel-twin engine. It’s good for 100 horsepower and 60 pound-feet, all of which is under 9,000 RPM. Add to that the 410-lb curb weight, and what you have is a recipe for helmet giggles.

Rest of the bits are likable, too. The suspension comes from KYB and has full adjustability at both ends. Whereas, the electronic package has all the necessary inclusions, be it a quickshifter or cruise control. Oh, and with the KTM 790 Duke no longer on sale, there is nothing quite like this on sale anymore.

Honda CB650R

Price: $8,699

Inline-four nakeds under $10,000 is a rare occurrence as it is, yet Honda will sell you its CB650R under $9,000. This is thanks to a recent price cut for the midweight streetfighter, where its price dropped from $9,399 to $8,699. At this price, there is literally nothing quite like it engine-wise. It impresses elsewhere, too.

The E-Clutch tech is unique and allows clutchless shifts up or down the transmission. You can also roll to and from a stop without using the clutch. In addition, Honda has thrown in Showa suspension, traction control, smartphone connectivity, and a TFT with various display modes.

Kawasaki Z900

Price: $9,999

This is the only other inline-four naked under $10,000. And it’s also the most powerful motorcycle under $10,000 today. That is courtesy of its 948cc, inline-four engine, good for 123 hp and 73 lb-ft. These are low in the revs, too, so you can expect a lot of punch at any given RPM. Power aside, the Z900 has become more premium in its current avatar.

A new TFT takes over the cockpit, which not only has smartphone connectivity but also an army of likeable electronics. This includes cornering ABS, cruise control, power modes, ride modes, and traction control. Kawasaki also claims the suspension and chassis have been tweaked to enhance the riding dynamics.

If you thought the CB750 and CB650R had impressive prices, the CB1000 Hornet SP beats them both in our books. After all, a full-size liter-class streetfighter under $11,000 is simply never heard of in the modern era. For reference, the SP undercuts smaller bikes like the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory, Yamaha MT-09, and Triumph Street Triple at this MSRP, while also being cheaper than its direct rival (the Suzuki GSX-S1000).

Things get better when you look at the equipment, as you’ll realize Honda hasn’t cut many corners. The suspension is premium (Showa SFF-BP forks and Ohlins monoshock), joined by equally premium Brembo Stylema brakes. All of it is topped with a 1,000cc inline-four engine based on the 2017 CBR1000RR. It’s a bit detuned in the US, but a simple flash will unlock over 155 hp!

The most powerful motorcycle here is a Japanese streetfighter packing 123 horsepower.

The MT-10 follows the same approach as the MT-03. There hasn’t been an overhaul in a long time, which is how it manages the staggeringly competitive MSRP. And if you can find a MY25 example, you’ll further save a couple of hundred dollars. Coming to the details, the USP here is the mechanical package. The twin-spar chassis, suspension, and CP4 powerhouse are all drawn from the YZF-R1, with minor tweaks to suit the naked nature.

All this while, the electronics package is scarcely believable for the price. It comprises:

The updated Speed Triple 1200 RS is one of the priciest naked bikes on the market today. So it’s fair to wonder how it punches above its price tag. And the answer is its suspension. You get Ohlins 43 mm NIX forks and an Ohlins TTX monoshock, both paired with the latest Smart EC3.0 electronic adjustability. The only other naked with the EC3.0 tech is the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, which sells for nearly $11,000 more.

As for other deets, the Speed Triple boasts a unique 1,160cc inline-triple engine. It produces 180 horsepower and 94.4 pound-feet–the latter being one of the highest in the hypernaked segment. This is topped with uber-premium electronics, including a new brake slide assist (to let you back it in) and independent wheelie control (to let you hold wheelies without looping).
