Middleweight adventure bikes are arguably the most popular in the already popular ADV space. For good reason, too, as they offer versatility without expensive base prices and easy maintenance. At the same time, they have become properly loaded in recent years, so you don’t really compromise on much. That popularity has urged nearly all mainstream bikemakers to launch such examples, while also inspiring new names to join the party.

Understandably, the latter rarely top the popular and proven kids, ending up as “overlooked”. That’s not to say these overlooked bikes are not capable, though. Some examples are really good in their own right, and the bike we’re about to talk about proves that well by promising a do-it-all package like no other.

The past couple of years have brought a few new names to the middleweight ADV party. Among these, we think the best do-it-all package comes from CFMoto in the form of the Ibex 800. In 2025, the Chinese bikemaker only sells the Ibex 800 E variant (2024 also had the Ibex 800 S).

That’s good news, since the ‘E’ stands for ‘Explorer’ and brings bits like spoke wheels to boost overall versatility. Add to that the 19/17-inch wheel size combination, and you get an ADV that should take on good and rough roads with pride rather than excelling in one particular area. You also get a great blend of performance, features, and suspension with decent travel.

What else is there, you ask? Well, we have the MV Agusta Enduro Veloce in a close second. This is MV’s first proper adventure bike in the modern era, armed with loads of high-quality components all over. Its price is scarcely believable, too, given its handmade nature. But unlike the CFMoto, it dives into the proper ADV side of things, evident from the 21-inch front wheel.

This might hurt its on-road abilities. Additionally, we’re not sure about the reliability of this all-new engine platform. In comparison, the Ibex has a KTM-sourced mill that has plenty of aftermarket support should anything go wrong. This is why we’d call the Ibex a more do-it-all ADV between the two.

The Ibex is the result of the long-known KTM-CFMoto tie-up. Under this, CFMoto manufactures certain KTM bikes in China, and KTM, in turn, allows the Chinese brand to use its engines in certain bikes. The Ibex is one such machine, as the 799cc parallel-twin mill is the same unit we’ve seen in the KTM 790 lineup.

The mill is good for 95 horsepower and 57 pound-feet, where the latter peaks under 7,000 RPM. I can personally vouch for the brilliant mid-range grunt here, having experienced the 790 Duke on the road and track. Meanwhile, all the power reaches the wheel via a six-speed transmission. Around 45 miles per gallon in mixed conditions is the fuel efficiency you should expect while riding sane, which gives a theoretical range of well over 200 miles.

Being an adventure-tourer through and through, the Ibex focuses on walking the fine line of balancing off-road and on-road dynamics. So you get KYB upside-down forks with full adjustability and 6.3 inches of travel, along with an adjustable monoshock with 5.9 inches of travel. A set of 19/17-inch spoke wheels helps with adventure-touring duties, and so do the Michelin Anakee dual-purpose tires. These wheels also house two 320 mm front disc brakes with J.Juan calipers.

The Curb Weight Is Just Over 500 Pounds

Add to that the KTM-sourced steel trellis frame, and the Ibex manages to tip the scales at just over 500 pounds with its 5-gallon tank fueled up. The seat height isn’t too tall, either, and the wheelbase is just over 60 inches. These are all rather respectable dimensions for an 800cc midweight ADV. And they should add to its do-it-all nature, be it in the city, tricky terrain, or on a freeway.

Last but not least, the Ibex 800 impresses with its feature package. In fact, this is the most premium motorcycle you can buy under $10,500. Starting with the safety bits, you can pick between six ride modes (Sport, Rain, OffRoad, OffRoad Plus, AllTerrain, and AllTerrain Plus). These recalibrate throttle mapping, ABS, and traction control to suit the riding conditions. A two-way quickshifter comes standard, too (interestingly, it’s not standard on KTM’s 790 Adventure).

Finally, the party trick is the rear radar system. This enables blind spot detection and rear collision warning, both of which are not present on any other sub-1,000cc middleweight ADV as of now. You’ll have to splurge around $7,000 more to get the next radar-equipped ADV.

You need a sizable display to enjoy all that tech, and the Ibex gets that right with its huge 8-inch TFT touchscreen instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay is standard via Bluetooth, so you can check your notifications and control devices while enjoying map navigation on your expeditions. CFMoto has thrown in nitty-gritty bits like a tire pressure monitoring system, heated grips, and cruise control to round things off.
