Kia Australia has quietly revealed pricing and initial details for the all-new EV4 Sedan over the weekend, with the Korean Tesla Model 3-fighter to kick off from a sharp $49,990 plus on-road costs.

A trio of variants will be available from launch – Air, Earth and GT-Line – with Standard Range and Long Range batteries also offered depending on the trim level.

The EV4 Standard Range offers a claimed 456km of WLTP-certified driving range from its 58.3kWh lithium-ion battery pack, while the Long Range ups that to 612km courtesy of a larger 81.4kWh pack.

Regardless of battery, all versions of the Kia EV4 in Australia are powered by a front-mounted 150kW/283Nm electric motor, good for a 0-100km/h time of 7.4 seconds in the Standard Range and 7.8 seconds in the Long Range.

The nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries can be charged from 10-80 per cent in as little as 29-31 minutes on a 350kW fast charger, or 55-79 minutes respectively on a 50kW DC charger.

Using an 11kW AC charger, the Standard Range can be charged from 10-100 per cent in 5 hours 20 minutes, while the Long Range takes 7 hours 15 minutes. Efficiency, meanwhile, is rated at 14.3kWh/100km for the Standard Range, and 14.9kWh/100km for the Long Range.

Compared to key rivals, the EV4 Air Standard Range is about 60km off the Tesla Model 3 RWD for range, and about 1.0 second slower to 100km/h – though it’s also $5000 more affordable. The BYD Seal Dynamic, meanwhile, is more or less lineball with the EV4 in performance and range specs, but is $3000 cheaper than its Korean rival.

All EV4 variants feature the Integrated Panoramic Display – incorporating dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen, as well as a 5.0-inch digital climate panel – plus Kia Connect services with over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an interior vehicle-to-load (V2L) outlet, and Kia’s semi-autonomous Highway Driving Assist 2 system with Lane Change Assist.

The EV4 Air’s 17-inch alloy wheels are upgraded to 19-inch units on the Earth and GT-Line, with the flagship adding niceties like Intelligent Front Lighting System (or adaptive LED headlights and high-beam), Premium Relaxation Seats with full recline, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, and Kia’s Blind Spot View Monitor and Remote Smart Park Assist.
