Tesla remained Australia’s top-selling electric vehicle (EV) brand in 2025, but based on BYD’s trajectory the Chinese brand could overtake it locally in 2026.

Per data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Electric Vehicle Council, new EV deliveries totalled 103,269 units last year, up 13.1 per cent on 2024. EVs therefore accounted for 8.3 per cent of all new vehicle deliveries in 2025.

In 2024, they accounted for 7.4 per cent of the overall market, or 91,495 deliveries overall.
