The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX has been announced in the United States (US) as the most powerful ‘half-ton’ pickup on the planet and could herald the return of V8 power to Australian Ram showrooms.
The Ram 1500 SRT TRX is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine making 777 horsepower (579kW) and 922Nm – up 56kW and 40Nm over the last version sold in Australia, the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition.
It knocks off the 5.2-litre supercharged V8 Ford F-150 Raptor R’s 720hp (530kW) as the most powerful production pickup on the planet, and tops the Ford’s 868Nm of torque for good measure.
The new performance hero comes with an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive with Launch Control for a 0-97km/h claim of 3.5 seconds – 0.1 seconds quicker than the Raptor R, and 0.2 seconds up on the previous TRX sold in Australia.

While set for US showrooms in the second half of 2026, the new TRX has not been confirmed for Australia but remains a chance for local showrooms – where it would easily be the most potent offering in the full-size pickup class.
“Although the new Ram SRT TRX is not yet confirmed for our market, it is under serious consideration,” said Jeff Barber, General Manager of Ram Trucks Australia, in a statement issued to CarExpert.
“We are super excited about the new Ram SRT TRX,” Mr Barber added.
“The first-generation Ram TRX was a popular addition to our line-up when it was previously available. While we have nothing to announce today, we are happy to say ‘watch this space’.”
It would mark the return of V8 power to the Australian Ram lineup, with the updated 2025 range introducing the new ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine.
Production of the 5.7-litre V8 previously offered here was restarted in the US in 2025, but Ram Trucks Australia has told CarExpert it has no plans to reintroduce the Hemi V8 to the regular lineup here.
As the flagship, the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX was announced at US$99,995 (A$149,455) in North America, a modest rise over the US$98,335 (A$146,974) asked for the 2024 model there.
This suggests Australian pricing may be similar to the A$249,950 before on-road costs of the previous version sold here, albeit heavily dependent on currency fluctuations.
The timing may also see pricing change, given Ram Trucks Australia needs to have the vehicle homologated for right-hand drive – with local versions remanufactured by Walkinshaw Group in Melbourne.
This could mean the wild TRX may not reach local showrooms until 2027 if it is given the green light for an Australian arrival.
Visually distinguished by Flame Red Ram front-grille lettering and twin tow hooks, the tailgate includes ‘TRX’ stamping, while the US-market Bloodshot Night Edition offers a two-tone exterior and graphics pack.
The TRX grille feeds a new airbox for improved engine cooling – and more power – with a sports exhaust featuring an ‘X crossover pipe’ and dual five-inch outlets for a more aggressive note.
Riding on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch tyres, the TRX has 299mm of ground clearance and suspension with Bilstein active dampers and aluminium components, offering 330mm of front suspension travel and 355mm at the five-link coil-spring rear.
The eight-speed automatic has been upgraded with a BorgWarner active transfer case, bringing a 2.64:1 low-range crawl ratio from the four-wheel-drive system, paired with a Dana 60 rear axle.
The TRX’s cabin includes a 14.5-inch centre touchscreen, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and red-stitched leather seats with carbon-fibre trim details, as well as a suede headlining.
