Volkswagen Group Australia has issued a nationwide product safety recall for several Cupra models – including the Ateca, Formentor and Terramar SUVs, and the Leon hatch – to fix a defect with their steering.
“Due to a software issue, the electric power steering system under certain driving conditions may become temporarily inoperable,” the company says in its recall notice.
“Should this occur, steering will remain functional. However, the driver may experience a noticeable increase in steering effort, particularly when cornering.
“A sudden increase in steering effort could increase the risk of an accident-causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
