Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling more than 100 examples of its G580 EQ made between 2024 and 2025 due to a potential problem with the electric off-roader’s wheel bolts.
“Due to incorrect wheel bolts, the wheel’s connection bolts may not meet the required specification and become loose. If this occurs, it could cause the wheel to shift direction, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control,” says the recall notice.
“A loss of vehicle control increases the risk of an accident causing serious injuries or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz in writing asking them to schedule an appointment with their authorised dealership to have the repair carried out when parts become available, free of charge.
While it’s the first recall of the G580 EQ – the electric version of the brand’s iconic G-Wagen – the German automaker recalled its GLC mid-size SUV and EQE large electric SUV in August 2025 due to an issue with steering coupling bolts.
The G580 EQ was launched here in 2025, priced at $249,900 before on-road costs – around $100,000 less than the flagship V8-powered G63 AMG.
While Mercedes-Benz has stepped back from its previous electric vehicle (EV) ambitions, its latest EVs include the new-generation GLC electric SUV revealed late last year, and it recently unveiled its electric C-Class sedan.
It’s also developing a smaller ‘baby G-Wagen’ compact SUV with electric power, which is expected to be launched in 2027.
