The 2026 Lexus ES 350e Says “Who Cares?” To Rising Gas Prices
While Lexus plans to introduce the gas-hybrid variants of the redesigned ES to the North American market before the end of 2026, they did us a solid and delivered the BEV versions for us to enjoy right now. The 2026 Lexus ES EV is expected to arrive at dealerships with a starting price of $47,500—just under the national average for new cars. For that price, buyers get the base model 350e, a FWD EV that is as impressive as it is gorgeous.
When referring to it being impressive, we consider its style and tech upgrades, as well as its powertrain abilities. Most notably, its range sits at an EPA-estimated 307 miles. While not more than, say, the Lucid Air, it costs much less than the American electric sedan, which starts at $70,900 with 420 miles of range for the base model. Then there’s the addition of Lexus-level reliability and network benefits, which gives buyers a much larger safety net if something were to go awry.
Why The New ES Is A Remedy For Economic Uncertainty… Right Now
307 miles of range may not be enough to cross the United States in one shot, but most buyers won’t require that much range. According to the FHWA, the average daily miles Americans travel is approximately 37, with errands being the main reason drivers enter their vehicles. With home charging being generally cheaper than fueling up a gas car, one begins to see why the 2026 ES is compelling in 2026. If you’re not ready to take the EV plunge, just wait a while, and you’ll be able to get a gas-hybrid ES 350h, which will start at $49,700 before delivery fees and will also cut your fuel bill compared to a gas-only option.
An Upgraded Platform Gives Way To A New Chapter
The 2026 ES rides on a Multi-Pathway platform, which allows both the BEV and gas-hybrid variants to share their basic underpinnings. This does a few things. First, it allows a more streamlined approach to model variation, which saves on production costs and allows Lexus to offer the 2026 ES at a reasonable price. Second, it gives the ES more stability in terms of quality control, as many of the basic structural assets are shared between the variants.
This is largely similar to the previous-gen’s approach, utilizing the TNGA-K platform that’s shared across multiple models to keep quality in line. In fact, the Multi-Pathway platform is an evolution of the TNGA-K platform itself, being adapted to support both gas-hybrid and BEV powertrains. This means you won’t necessarily be dealing with an all-new platform that needs ironing out. That said, reliability for the 2026 ES remains to be seen, though if it’s anything like the outgoing seventh-gen model’s, it’ll likely outlast many of its contemporaries, while keeping maintenance costs in check.
