The GAC Aion UT is entering the growing small electric vehicle (EV) space, with first examples of the Chinese hatch now reaching dealers.
It’s priced at $31,990 before on-road costs for the base Premium, with the top-spec Luxury priced at $35,990 before on-roads.
From March 13 to April 9 this year, however, GAC will offer the Premium for $30,990 drive-away and the Luxury for $35,990 drive-away. This is limited to the first 600 units.

During the same period, GAC is running a promotion where prospective buyers can test drive any GAC product and enter the draw to win a free Aion UT.
Both the Premium and Luxury use a 60kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering 430km of electric range under the WLTP cycle and energy consumption of 16.4kWh/100km.
It can be charged at up to 11kW on AC power and up to 87kW on DC power.
The Aion UT is front-wheel drive, like the GWM Ora (currently priced from $33,990 drive-away) and the BYD Dolphin (from $29,990 before on-roads), as well as the upcoming MG 4 EV Urban. The MG 4 and upcoming Geely EX2, in contrast, are rear-wheel drive.
Its single electric motor produces 150kW of power and 210Nm of torque, outperforming the base BYD Dolphin Essential (70kW/180Nm) and beating the GWM Ora on power but not on torque (126kW/250Nm).
With 430km of range, it also betters all members of the Dolphin lineup (340-427km) and the Ora range (380-400km).
It measures 4270mm long, 1850mm wide and 1575mm tall on a 2750mm wheelbase, making it 105mm shorter than a Toyota Corolla hatch but 60mm wider and riding a 110mm longer wheelbase. There’s 321 litres of boot space.

The Aion UT is available in Rococo White or Champs-Elysses Beige at no extra cost. The following exterior paint finishes are available for an additional $600:

Emerald Green and Classic Crimson can be had with a Rococo White roof for $1000.
The interior is available in black, pink or beige.
GAC backs its vehicles with an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year, 200,000km battery warranty. Also included is five years of roadside assistance, provided you service within the GAC dealer network, and 2GB of free data per month for the first two years.
The brand has previously confirmed it won’t offer the cheapest models in its respective segments.
“Our operational strategy in Australian market is to have accurate pricing and to have accurate positioning. We want to set ourselves as the middle premier brand, but with very high quality and with competitive price,” said GAC International president Wei Haigang in November 2025.
“We do not want to set a lower price, so you can see our price comes with relatively higher configuration or trim.
“We cannot choose to set a lower price just for the sake of setting a low price, as without profits we cannot make our business sustainable.”
GAC plans to bring more than 10 models to Australia in the coming five years, with the aim to offer a range of body styles (passenger cars, SUVs, people movers and a ute) and powertrains (petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric and extended-range electric).
The Chinese brand launched here last year with three models: the petrol-powered Emzoom small crossover SUV; the electric Aion V mid-size SUV; and the plug-in hybrid M8 people mover.
