It would be a little cliché to begin a rant about the rise of the SUV and how today’s trend toward crossovers goes against everything sacred to the enthusiast philosophy. Instead, let’s look at the SUV phenomenon from a more positive angle and consider the merits of these high-speed sports utility vehicles. Despite being tall, wide, and perhaps ungainly to look at, they could eat a ’90s supercar for breakfast.
There are sporty SUVs, and then there are the SUV elites, such as these, that boast huge power outputs, impressive performance stats, and the ability to transport four adults in comfort. Even go off-road. Not that we’d entertain that idea in an SUV at this price. We chose to rank the following super-fast SUVs based on their acceleration times — at this level, only a handful of models are so fast. Here they are.
Models have been listed in ascending order based on 0-60 MPH time, from the “slowest” to the fastest, with a few models tied for their position. We have not included EVs in this list.
2026 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E Performance
0-60 MPH: 3.4 Seconds
What sets this mid-sized Mercedes-Benz SUV apart from the others in this list isn’t its brutal acceleration or its power output — both of which are world-class. The GLC 63 S E Performance accomplishes its impressive performance not from a twin-turbo V8 like most of the other fastest SUVs, but instead from a hybrid setup composed of the M139 four-pot and various electric motors. That engine is only a four-cylinder mill, but together the whole setup offers more torque than any other model on this list.
Compared to some of the other candidates, you could also almost call the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S E Performance a sleeper, but the quad exhausts, body kit, big wheels, and badging still give the game away. For all its luxury and performance, the $86,750 price tag also makes it a bargain compared to its super-SUV rivals.

2026 Audi RS Q8 Performance
0-60 MPH: 3.4 Seconds
This is one of the fastest SUVs on sale right now, with 0-60 mph coming around in just over three seconds — thanks to the twin-turbo V8 that will appear in various other models in this list, since the Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and Lamborghini SUVs all feature different variants of the same basic engine. Its $138,000 price tag is mouth-watering, but it’s still far less expensive than the Lamborghini Urus Performante below.
It’s not a Lamborghini, though, and its more reserved styling may be appreciated by some, though we use the word reserved lightly, since the hottest member of the Audi Q8 family offers up to 23-inch wheels and aggressive detailing. Handling for the high-riding Audi RS Q8 is kept mostly in check with help from a capable chassis, riding on an adaptive suspension, with an active roll stabilization system to improve cornering.

2026 Bentley Bentayga Speed
0-60 MPH: 3.4 Seconds
At the heart of the hottest versions of the 2026 Bentley Bentayga used to be a W12 engine, but the twin-turbo V8 is now king, and it offers enough firepower to move the 5,500-pound ultra-luxury SUV faster than it has any right to. A wide range of trims and configurations is available for those with less of an appetite for speed, and the range kicks off with a 3.0-liter, plug-in hybrid V6. In any case, the price will still sting those with more modest savings, since the base price is over $200,000.
Bentley’s Bentayga Speed is the ferocious cousin to the rest of the lineup, with optional carbon-ceramic brakes and a 193-mph top speed on the table if you are going to be late for your private jet. That doesn’t mean that this is a vulgar machine, and despite its unapologetic size and optional 23-inch wheels, the rest of the affair is the usual opulence you have come to expect, with quilted leather hide for your back and the finest of materials and features to warrant its mortgage-like window sticker price.

10 Compact SUVs With More Than 200 Horsepower
These models all offer something different but are united by the fact that they all make more than 200 horsepower.
2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante
0-62 MPH: 3.3 Seconds
Lamborghini’s Urus Performante was indeed discontinued after the 2024 model year, the track-focused variant of the Italian super-SUV. The Urus range has now been replaced by the plugin hybrid Urus SE, which can still hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, a tenth slower than this model. It may still be available new at some dealers, so we included the Performante here — one of the fastest and most capable SUVs ever made.
Being a Lamborghini, a car bred from the same bloodline that’s given the world some of the greatest, fastest, and most exotic hypercars to ever historically roam the land, the Urus essentially needs no explanation. Despite sharing its underpinnings with the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q8, it certainly looks like no other SUV on the road, with its low-slung roofline, slick overall profile, wide stance, and pronounced wheel arches.

So what do you get with the most extreme version of one of the most extreme sports utility vehicles? The same twin-turbo V8 engine that’s fundamentally similar to the other VW Group models in this list, but the chassis and suspension have been modified for increased dynamics, which includes swapping the air suspension for springs. Aerodynamics were prioritized, too, and weight reduction was employed, which involved the use of carbon fiber components for specific features. It was succeeded by the SE, a more rounded variant of the Urus, but one that is still insanely fast.

2026 Ferrari Purosangue
0-62 MPH: 3.3 Seconds
The very fact that it exists still causes debate, and that’s not going to change. Yes, the Ferrari Purosangue is controversial, but it is also an inevitable evolution for the brand in today’s market, and one that, despite its divisive nature, is undeniably well-executed, at least mechanically. Ferrari’s decision to house the F140 engine inside its first-ever SUV is a bold statement.
That’s because this naturally aspirated V12 shows that the enthusiast was very much considered when constructing an SUV with a Prancing Horse on its nose. The engine is a long-running unit that was most recently used in the 12Cilindri, but goes back to the Enzo. There’s a lot of trickery going on behind the scenes to enable the Purosangue to handle as well as it does, too, with electronic motors in the suspension modules to minimize roll during cornering. There are very few SUVs that can muster 700 horsepower, and even fewer that house a naturally aspirated engine. It’s blasphemy to some, but there’s no denying that if we had to drive one, it would probably be this.

2026 Aston Martin DBX707
0-60 MPH: 3.1 Seconds
Another first for a brand, this time for the British marque Aston Martin, as they dipped their toes into the world of SUVs with impressive results. The specs are undeniable: a hair under 700 horsepower and a 193 mph top speed, not to mention the DBX707 is one of the fastest 0-60 mph times for a production SUV. Its price of around $280,000 is also very impressive indeed, but this is not just any sports utility vehicle – it’s also an Aston Martin.
There’s a level of horsepower and torque one can safely deploy on a public road. The DBX707 does not just exceed that amount. It probably doubles it. The mega grip and flat cornering built my confidence. The V8 — betraying its Mercedes DNA — felt more comfortable the faster I went.
Being an Aston Martin invokes emotion and brings heritage, sure, but the 2026 DBX707‘s styling could be called challenging around its rear quarters. We could argue that, from the front, though, this is one of the sleeker-looking SUVs on sale. So it’s a mixed bag, and that theme continues under the hood. Here, it’s another 4.0-liter V8, fed by two turbos, but the motor comes from AMG, just like the transmission. A new DBX S model ups the power ante to 717 horsepower, too. Not a sports car, but one that very much wants to be.

Speed And Practicality: The Fastest Wagons Of The Last Decade
The fast wagon niche promises excellent practicality with the kind of power and fun that you’d normally expect from a sports sedan or sports car.
2026 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT
0-60 MPH: 3.1 Seconds
Here is one of the fastest SUVs you can buy based on its factory 0-60 mph rating. Results may vary, but there’s no denying that the 2026 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT will probably slay most other SUV rivals in a straight line or in the bends. There’s lots going on under the Cayenne Coupe’s sheet metal, and that’s part of the reason that one of these will run you $210,000 before options. The Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe actually makes more power (729 horsepower), but it is four-tenths slower to 60 mph.
Standard ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension, rear wheel steering, and lightweight carbon fiber parts are just some of the highlights here, all working together to make this more than a premium SUV. A titanium sports exhaust is a clue to the real purpose of the Turbo GT. It’s still a 5,000-pound SUV, but you probably won’t care as you enjoy the speed on offer from the confines of the luxurious cockpit, enjoying the view as you sail past all those regular sports cars on the freeway.
