Kia recently introduced the all-new 2027 Kia EV3 at the New York International Auto Show, and it promises to be just the thing that the entry-level EV segment was missing. Kia says it sets a new benchmark as the most affordable electric vehicle in its EV lineup, joining the already popular EV6 and EV9 models.​​​​​​​

The EV3 is based on the 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), featuring an energy-dense battery that allows the vehicle to achieve a manufacturer-estimated 320 miles of range on some trims with fast charging capabilities. This entry-level Kia EV also offers many advanced and near-luxury features, some even taken directly from the EV9, packaging it in an affordable model.

The Kia EV3’s interior features a unique design that uses durable materials while still looking premium. At the front, the driver and front passenger area is said to offer a clean, open layout that focuses on practicality and simplicity. There’s also an open center console with retractable cupholders, along with open and covered storage compartments. Rear seat passengers enjoy 39-degree reclining seat backs and air vents for improved comfort.

On the cargo front, the Kia offers plenty of space for storage. It offers 26.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, along with a standard two-position luggage board with underfloor storage. The rear seats are 60/40 split-folding, and dropping them down entirely opens up the cargo space to 56.5 cubic feet behind the first row. The frunk can swallow 0.9 cubic feet of luggage, which is uncommon in the segment. Kia also offers an optional Smart Power Liftgate.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

An Expansive Panoramic Display Is Standard

All Kia EV3 models are headlined by a large standard panoramic display that features two 12.3-inch displays and a 5-inch climate display. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Kia’s voice-recognition-based AI assistant. This system also makes up Kia’s connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), which is taken from the EV9, offering connectivity and entertainment features, including Wi-Fi hotspot and video streaming services.​​​​​​​

The cabin also features a 12-inch heads-up display, a premium 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charging, and Surround View Monitor (SVM). The EV3 also gets standard dual-zone Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC). The GT-Line builds on that with a three-spoke steering wheel, metal pedals, and off-white 2-tone seats. Meanwhile, the top-tier GT model features sport bucket seats and neon-green accents all around.

Optional features include heated and ventilated front seats, multicolor ambient mood lighting, and available Digital Key 2.0. The Digital Key 2.0 turns your compatible smartphone into a virtual car key.

The EV3 also doesn’t hold back when it comes to safety, featuring eight standard airbags and an impressive ADAS suite. The most notable here is the Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) Assist, which features Junction Turning (FCA-JT) as standard, which avoids collisions with a detected oncoming vehicle when turning left at intersections. Owners can also opt for the available Junction Crossing (FCA-JT) function, which monitors roadways when driving to detect vehicles coming from either side. The ADAS suite also features Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2), Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA-R), and Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA).

Built on the 400V E-GMP platform, Kia will offer the EV3 with a choice of two batteries. The base Light trim gets a standard-range 58.3-kilowatt-hour battery that sends power only to the front wheels. Higher trims are powered by a long-range 81.4-kilowatt-hour battery that makes all-wheel drive possible on Wind and Land, which is otherwise standard on the GT-Line and GT models.

The 58.3-kilowatt-hour battery gives the EV3 a Kia-estimated range of 220 miles, while the 81.4-kilowatt-hour battery with front-wheel drive takes that up to 320 miles. On the performance front, the EV3 offers up to 261 horsepower with all-wheel drive and 288 horsepower with the GT model. Kia also offers Virtual Gear Shifts (VGS) and Active Sound Design (ASD) to further improve the driving experience.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

According to Kia, the EV3 with DC fast charging can charge from 10 to 80 percent in an estimated 29 minutes with the 58.3-kilowatt-hour battery and 31 minutes with the long-range battery. The EV3 also comes with a native NACS charging port that’s located on the front passenger side. There’s also the standard Kia Plug And Charge (PnC) that can charge seamlessly by pulling up to a compatible charging station and plugging in.​​​​​​​

The EV3 comes with the i-Pedal 3.0 system that helps you smoothly control the car’s speed and even bring it to a stop using only the accelerator pedal. This feature works with the car’s adaptive Smart Regeneration System to recapture energy that would otherwise be lost to braking. This function even works in reverse, and its memory function reverts back to the last-used setting during restarts.

Kia also offers the Vehicle to Load (V2L) function, which lets the car charge compatible external devices, which include laptops, e-bikes, and more. Another excellent feature is the Vehicle to Home (V2H) function, which uses a Wallbox bidirectional charging system to provide power back to your home during peak energy usage or outages.

It is guided by Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy, which is said to juxtapose natural elements with the human and industrial world. The car’s design language is shared with the EV6 and EV9, and it not only looks premium but also helps the car’s aerodynamics. Kia also uses lightweight body materials, aero wheels, an integrated active air flap in the front bumper, and a full underbody cover to achieve a 0.275 drag coefficient.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Some of the EV3’s design highlights include its sleek star-map DRL design, futuristic silhouette with a sloping roof and short overhang, and flush-type roof rails. Hidden rear door handles give it a clean side view that’s similar to the EV9. The car rides on 17 or 19-inch alloy wheels wearing all-season tires.

The GT-Line and GT models take things up a notch. The GT-Line features exclusive design elements that give it a slightly more sporty and striking look. Meanwhile, the GT-Line gets 19-inch wheels and green brake calipers that match neon green accents around the car. Some trims also get the Nightfall black appearance package, which adds gloss black wheels, black emblems, and a unique dark gray interior.
