The beginner-friendly sports bike segment has many popular players. But the best no-compromise experience comes from a new kid on the block. We’re talking about the Aprilia RS 457. This brings a class-leading blend of sharp riding dynamics, a torque-loaded parallel-twin engine, and a feature set none of its rivals can match. At the same time, it has an attainable price tag of $6,799.

That might sound a lot compared to the Kawasaki Ninja 500’s base price of $5,399. But if you look closely, the base Ninja doesn’t even have ABS, let alone a TFT or other comparable features. For those things, you’ll need the Ninja 500 SE ABS, which sells for $6,499. Even then, you miss out on an aluminum frame and adjustable suspension. It’s a similar story with the $6,399 Honda CBR500R.

The other bike that comes close to a no-compromise package is the CFMoto 450SS. It has a similar parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crank as the 457, along with adjustable suspension and Brembo monoblock brakes. You also get a handful of modern features as standard. All that costs just $5,699, which makes it one of the best value bikes in the segment. However, being a Chinese bikemaker, the overall long-term dependability is a question mark here.

Diving deeper, the 457 employs Aprilia’s newest engine. This is a 457cc, parallel-twin mill with a 270-degree crankshaft. That means you get 47 horsepower at 9,400 RPM and 32 pound-feet at 6,700 RPM. The latter makes a world of difference while riding, as you’re never short of punch anywhere in the rev range. The figures are also right up there with the best in the segment. Just don’t expect good efficiency; this mill chugs fuel quite a lot.

The 457’s engine is banging, but I feel the real USP is its handling. You get a class-leading aluminum chassis here, which is a rarity even in the middleweight sports bike segment nowadays. This, along with the 41 mm USD forks and monoshock, helps enable razor-sharp handling dynamics with a lot of confidence. Both ends have adjustability as well. Meanwhile, braking is via a 320 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc, both clamped by ByBre calipers. There’s plenty of bite, but these are susceptible to brake fade.

The 457’s Curb Weight Lies At Well Under 400 Pounds

All that equipment helps limit the curb weight to just 385 pounds wet. This is in the ballpark of other 400-500cc sports bikes, and the accessible saddle height (31.5 inches) makes life even easier. For some reason, Aprilia hasn’t revealed the wheelbase or ground clearance, though.

Ever since Aprilia started making its sports bikes, they have always been right up to date technology-wise. So the 457 follows the same brief as its siblings. Ride modes, engine maps, anti-rollover system, traction control, and dual-channel ABS modes with two intervention modes are all standard inclusions from the factory. These are accessible via a neatly laid-out 5-inch TFT instrument cluster. A quickshifter remains missing, but Aprilia officially sells a two-way unit from Domino as part of the official accessories.

We’d also like to applaud Aprilia for the design. The 457 looks like a mini RS 660 from afar, thanks to its triple-element LED headlight and segmented fairings. The tail is also in line with the bigger Aprilias, so the overall experience is quite premium. It’s the same way from the cockpit. For 2026, the bikemaker also has a new assortment of colors coming our way that follow the new RS 660 and RSV4 1100. There’s also a new race replica option. These might be accompanied by a price revision, however.
