An SUV model — known as the MG 4X — will soon join the MG 4 family, which currently includes the front-wheel drive MG 4 Urban, and the more performance-focussed MG 4.

Last week MG gave the world a look at the 4X’s exterior, now regulatory filings in China have revealed some of the car’s important specifications.

Thanks to the filings seen by Car News China, we now know the 4X is 4500mm long, 1849mm wide, 1621mm tall, and rides on a 2735mm wheelbase.

Entry-level versions of the 4X are powered by a 125kW motor, while more upscale variants have a 150kW electric motor. Given the 4X’s close relationship to the MG 4 Urban, it’s safe to assume the 4X is purely a front-wheel drive car, unlike the older MG 4 which is available in both rear- and all-wheel drive.

Battery capacity, and consequently range estimates, are not yet known. The filing indicates initial models use batteries with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

Earlier reports indicated the 4X would make use of the ‘world-first’ semi-solid state battery that’s currently available in one variant of the MG 4 Urban sold in China. It’s possible this new battery type will join the 4X later on as the battery supplier ramps up production of the new battery type.
