The hybrid Chery C5 SHS-H small crossover SUV has been launched overseas as a competitor to the GWM Haval Jolion, and it’s headed to Australia.

While the hybrid SUV has been introduced in the UK as the Omoda 5, Chery Australia has said it will be sold here as part of parent company Chery’s model lineup instead, arriving in mid-2026.

Officially badged SHS-H – for Super Hybrid System Hybrid – it will sit alongside petrol-powered C5 models sold in Australia, which are currently offered in two grades priced at $29,990 drive-away and $34,990 drive-away respectively.

Petrol models use a 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the E5 battery-electric versions are priced at $36,990 and $40,990 before on-road costs.

Australian pricing, equipment and full specifications for the C5 SHS-H are yet to be announced.

The Chery C5 hybrid runs a series-parallel setup and isn’t a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) but rather a conventional hybrid (HEV), similar in concept to the Toyota RAV4, Australia’s best-selling SUV.

In UK guise, the C5 hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and a hybrid-specific transmission, sending a combined 150kW to the front wheels for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

A 1.83kWh battery and 51-litre fuel tank deliver a claimed total driving range of ‘over’ 1047km, with a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.3L/100km.

Offered in two model grades in the UK, standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting and dual 12.3-inch digital displays, with wireless smartphone connectivity.
