The next-generation BMW X3 M and X4 M look set to offer M3 levels of performance in a taller and more spacious package.

According to well-known BMW insider that posts on the Bimmerpost forum, the iX3 electric SUV, as well as the upcoming iX4 “coupe SUV”, will have fully-fledged M versions.

Interestingly these high performance models will drop their ‘i’ prefix, and be branded as the X3 M and X4M.

The X3 M and X4 M will reportedly use the same quad-motor setup as the all-electric M3, which the source claims will be available in both sedan and wagon bodies. The rumour mill suggests all of these cars will have some between 800hp and 1000hp (600kW to 746kW) at their disposal.

While the M3 will have a unique battery pack, the X3 M and X4 M will have to make do with the 108kWh battery that’s used in the iX3 50 xDrive. The higher performance characteristics of the M drivetrain will see range fall from the 50’s 805km WLTP rating.

The X3 M and X4 M will be built alongside their less-powerful iX3 and iX4 siblings in Debrecen, Hungary. Production for both models is expected to commence at the end of 2027.
