The EV market may be fighting to maintain popularity, though that hasn’t stopped automakers from pursuing the dream of an electric future. While Tesla, Ford, and Honda have been scaling back their electric plans, Subaru has just revealed a new electric addition to its stable. And it just so happens to be the most powerful production model the storied Japanese manufacturer has ever produced. No, it isn’t a sleek sports car or hi-po concept; it’s a three-row family SUV.

The All-New 2027 Subaru Getaway Is A 420-HP Family Hauler

Subaru pulled the cover back on its new EV, the 2027 Getaway, at the New York International Auto Show. At first glance, it looks every bit like a modern three-row SUV. Boxy stance, modern design elements, and plenty of room. But what makes this electric hauler most interesting is that it’s actually a powerhouse with a sub-five-second 0-60 MPH sprint. That may not be fast by current EV standards, with models from Tesla and Lucid making the trip in far less time, but the 2027 Getaway isn’t aimed at those who crave speed; it’s geared toward large families who appreciate an adventure in a vehicle that can handle terrain.

All trims come equipped with Subaru’s legendary Symmetrical AWD system and 420 horsepower, the latter spec courtesy of dual electric motors — one at the front and one at the back. The versatile powertrain allows the Getaway to tow up to 3,500 pounds, while offering 8.3 inches of ground clearance. In other words, the Getaway is built for, well, getaways. X-MODE Dual-Mode System brings various drive modes to the Getaway, including Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud Modes, Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control for added capability, no matter the road ahead.

The 2027 Getaway will feature a high-capacity, long-range 95.8-kWh Li-ion battery said to deliver more than 300 miles of range. A standard-range model will arrive next year with a smaller, 77-kWh battery; both standard and long-range models will feature a NACS charging port. Charging speeds sit at 150 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.

Outside, the 2027 Subaru Getaway adopts Subie’s next-gen EV styling, like a unique lighting signature up front that includes an illuminated logo, dynamic DRLs, and front headlamps with dedicated washers. The rear also boasts cool lighting that includes another illuminated logo and a distinctive lighting signature. The body is clean, with smooth contours and flush door handles, indicative of modern design tastes. There are ladder-type roof rails up top for more cargo solutions, 19-inch alloy wheels for the base model, and 20-inch alloys for upper trims.

The modern EV aesthetic comes to a head once you’re inside the 2027 Getaway, where you’ll be greeted with ample room for seven, which Subaru says can comfortably seat six-foot passengers in all three rows, while offering more cargo space than the KIA EV9 at 45.6 cubic feet with the third row folded (15.9 cubes with the third row up). Housed in the dash is a large 14-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cluster — both of which are listed as standard equipment.

A large fixed panoramic sunroof, heated second- and third-row seats, ventilated front and second-row seats, and a 360-degree heated steering wheel are present on certain trims, while heated front seats are standard across the board. Additional cabin features include two wireless charging pads for front seat occupants and customizable ambient lighting. An extensive safety suite is standard for all 2027 Subaru Getaways.
