Nissan Rogue Engine Failure Recall: What Owners Need To Know
Nissan is recalling certain examples of the Nissan Rogue from the 2023 through 2025 model years due to a defect that can lead to engine failure and, in extreme cases, an engine fire. The recall has been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under campaign number 26V080000 and expands on previous recall 25V437.
The issue affects Rogue models equipped with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder variable compression turbocharged engine. According to recall documents, elevated temperatures inside the engine may cause the motor oil to break down prematurely. When oil degrades, it can lose its ability to properly lubricate critical internal components.
In this case, insufficient lubrication may cause the engine bearings to seize and become damaged. If that happens, the engine can fail, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power. That loss of propulsion increases the risk of a crash, particularly at highway speeds.
Regulators also note a more severe possibility. A bearing failure could breach the engine block, allowing hot oil to escape into the engine bay. Escaping oil under high temperatures raises the risk of an engine fire.

Repair Details, VIN Lookup, And Owner Notification
To correct the problem, Nissan dealers will reprogram the engine control module software, inspect the vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes, and conduct a test drive. Technicians may also inspect the oil pan for metal debris, which can indicate internal damage. If necessary, the engine will be replaced. All repairs will be performed free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning March 27, 2026. Starting February 27, 2026, owners can check whether their vehicle is included by entering their VIN on NHTSA.gov. Nissan has assigned recall numbers R25E2 and R25E3 to this campaign. Owners with questions can contact Nissan customer service at 800-647-7261 for more information.
With more than 300,000 vehicles potentially affected, this Nissan Rogue engine failure recall represents one of the larger safety actions announced so far this year. While no driver wants to receive a recall notice, the remedy process is straightforward and free. Owners of affected 2023 to 2025 Rogue SUVs are encouraged to schedule service promptly to reduce the risk of sudden engine failure or fire.
