Luxury SUVs are among the best vehicles you can buy if you are looking for a commanding road presence, top-of-the-range technology, masses of comfort features, sometimes, the best off-road gear, and, often, very powerful engines. However, while the luxury SUV may serve as a status symbol and a comfortable place to be in traffic, with all the finery, sometimes comes low dependability. Take models like the 2022 Audi Q7. According to J.D. Power reliability ratings, it scores only 69 out of 100.
On the other hand, less luxurious models, like the 2022 Toyota RAV4, have been given a reliability score of 87 out of 100. There is a huge disparity in dependability. We cannot say all luxury SUVs are unreliable, though; some spend minimal time in the garage, and while some may have enormous maintenance costs, many models receive strong reliability ratings.
The models in this list have been extensively researched to ensure the most accurate information possible as of the time of publishing. Models are listed in ascending order from least to most reliable.
2025 Cadillac XT4
Reliability Score: 80/100
When the 2025 Cadillac XT4 was released last year, it had a huge challenge to stand out against its larger sibling, the XT5, and Cadillac’s flagship luxury SUV, the Escalade. However, with a starting price of just $41,990 and two trims available (the Premium Luxury and the Sport), this compact luxury SUV ticks a lot of boxes and does provide a more affordable way into American SUV luxury.
As standard, the 2025 Cadillac XT4 comes equipped with a massive 33-inch LED display, a premium audio rig, dual-zone climate control, and a perky 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four good for 235 horsepower. If you opt for the XT4 Sport, you also get 18-inch split five-spoke alloys, a blacked-out grille, a sports steering wheel, and carbon fiber trim around the cabin.
2025 Cadillac XT4 Reliability
The Quality and Reliability rating you see on J.D. Power vehicle-specific pages is generated from owner reviews, and the 2025 XT4 does very well for its breeding. Owners have rated it 80 out of 100 on J.D. Power, and on Kelley Blue Book (KBB), owners have rated it 4.7 out of 5 for reliability. Compared to less luxurious models from last year, the XT4 is actually rated higher for reliability by owners on KBB than the 2025 Toyota RAV4, which only gets a rating of 3.9 out of 5.
You should be aware, though, that owners have a few problems with the XT4, which include rough idling and touch-and-go braking in some models.
- Average Yearly Maintenance Cost: $783 (RepairPal)
- Est. Maintenance Cost During The First 10 Years: $12,812 (CarEdge)

2021 Porsche Cayenne
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 81/100
Porsche is no doubt one of the finest luxury marques on the market, and while the German reputation for high maintenance costs is not going anywhere fast, models like the 2021 Porsche Cayenne show that you can have a plush, sporty ride, and good rates of dependability in one mighty-looking package.
The 2021 Porsche Cayenne was released in six trims: the base Cayenne, the Cayenne S, the Cayenne E-Hybrid, the Cayenne GTS, the Cayenne Turbo, and the Cayenne S Turbo E-Hybrid. You have engine options ranging from a staunch 355-horsepower turbocharged V6 under the hood of the base trim to an almighty 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged hybrid V8 good for 670 horsepower under the hood of the S Turbo E-Hybrid. 2021 Porsche Cayenne Reliability

Power; owners on KBB have given it a reliability score of 4.5 out of 5, and iSeeCars scores a very impressive 8.2 out of 10 for reliability.
There is a but, though. The 2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS currently has zero NHTSA recalls, but trims like the base model are subject to five recalls, and the E-Hybrid is subject to six recalls. These safety recalls are for reasons such as the rear axle being misaligned, the rearview camera not displaying an image, the steering column may detach, or the power outlet may overheat when charging your phone. You must check which flavor of 2021 Cayenne you are looking to buy to see if any recall reasons need rectifying.

- Est. Maintenance Cost During The First 10 Years: N/A (CarEdge)

Also, iSeeCars echoes this sentiment and has rated the 2022 BMW X3 7.7 out of 10 for reliability. RepairPal has rated the whole X3 model line a lot lower, at 2.5 out of 5, but public opinion for the 2022 MY is at least a lot higher.

All models from the 2023 lineup come equipped with a 181-horsepower hybrid inline-four, with power either sent to the front two wheels or all four wheels. There are four trims to choose from: the UX 250h, the UX 250h Premium, the UX 250h F SPORT Design, and the UX 250h F SPORT Handling. All models of this reliable subcompact luxury SUV are kitted out with an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, which can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch one, heated and ventilated front seats, synthetic leather seats, and sashiko-inspired upholstery quilting on higher trims. 2024 Porsche Macan
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 84/100
Boasting an average used price range of between $49,100 and $79,200, the 2024 Porsche Macan may not be a cheap luxury SUV to buy this year, but it is an exceptionally potent and silky one. From the outset, the Macan does well in overall ratings, with owners on KBB giving it a score of 4.7 out of 5, and owners on J.D. Power rating it 86 out of 100 overall. We can see why.
The gas-engine models of the 2024 Porsche Macan are available as the Macan, the Macan T, the Macan S, and the Macan GTS. The base trim and the Macan T feature a 2.0-liter turbo-four that sends out 261 ponies; the Macan S gets a twin-turbocharged V6 good for 375 horsepower, and the Macan GTS benefits from a more powerful version of the same 2.9-liter V6 in the Macan S. Under the hood of the 2024 Macan GTS, this twin-turbocharged EA839 V6 kicks out 434 horsepower and can get you to 60 mph in around 4.2 seconds.
2024 Porsche Macan Reliability
According to the 2024 Initial Quality Survey (IQS), Porsche experienced 171 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100). The market average in 2024 was 194 PP100, so Porsche was some way below the average, but more impressively, they experienced fewer problems than Lexus and Toyota. In 2024, Lexus experienced 173 PP100, and Toyota experienced 192 PP100. This seems to have rubbed off on the 2024 Porsche Macan, which has zero NHTSA recalls and impressive reliability ratings from owners.
Owners on J.D. Power have given it 84 out of 100 for reliability; owners on KBB have rated it 4.7 out of 5 for reliability, with 93% of owners recommending it, and iSeeCars has rated the Macan 8.1 out of 10 for reliability. As we have seen with other German models on this list, the maintenance costs are still high, though.

2024 Cadillac Escalade
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 84/100
As one of the most famous luxury SUVs made in America, the Cadillac Escalade is everything that you’d expect from a full-size luxury flagship SUV. The 2024 Cadillac Escalade is massive, measuring in at 212 inches by 81 inches; it comes equipped with either a 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 as standard, which can be upgraded to a 682-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 in the Escalade-V, and it is trimmed as well as and better than a lot of its competition.
As standard, the ’24 Escalade flaunts a 38-inch curved OLED display, heated first and second row seats, a 19-speaker AKG audio system, and 12-way power seats. In higher trims, you can also benefit from leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, massaging seats, and a 36-speaker AKG audio system. It is the height of luxury, but the best thing is that owners also say that it is very reliable.
2024 Cadillac Escalade Reliability
The 2024 Escalade gets an admittedly quite mediocre overall rating of 3.7 out of 5 on KBB, but it does do better for reliability. On KBB, owners have given it 4 out of 5; owners on J.D. Power rate it 84 out of 100, and iSeeCars rates it 7.7 out of 10. While it may be surprising that something of this size and grandeur could be so reliable, turns out that it is.
However, Escalade boasts the L87 V8, and while it pumps out some pretty numbers, it is worth noting that there have been a lot of documented problems with it, which include defects in the crankshaft and rod bearings. Since a safety recall that concerned previous model years’ engines resulted in Caddy improving the engine, the units used in the 2024 MY should be a lot sturdier, though.
- Average Yearly Maintenance Cost: $1,007 (RepairPal)
- Est. Maintenance Cost During The First 10 Years: $14,442 (CarEdge)
- Total Recalls: 2; one for risk of engine failure, and one for an inoperative low brake fluid warning.

While the 2025 Lexus NX enjoys low maintenance costs and high praise from owners, who have given it respective 85 out of 100 and 4.9 out of 5 reliability ratings on J.D. Power and Kelley Blue Book, it is worth noting that there are a few NHTSA recalls you should be aware of.
The 2025 Lexus NX 350h and NX 450h+ have both been recalled for a rearview camera that may not display an image, rear headrests that can be removed, and a damaged second-row seatbelt. The 2025 Lexus NX 250 has been recalled due to these problems, plus loose bolts on the brake caliper and wheel hub bearing.
- Average Yearly Maintenance Cost: $690 (RepairPal)

2021 Lexus RX
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 87/100
Available with a good choice of engines that range from a 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 to a 308-horsepower plug-in V6, the 2021 Lexus RX was, and still is, a very renowned used mid-sized luxury SUV. Prices are still high today, sitting at between $33,000 and $39,000, but we can see why. On KBB, owners have rated the 2021 RX 4.1 out of 5; owners on J.D. Power have rated it 82 out of 100 overall, and iSeeCars has given it an overall rating of 8.4 out of 10.
On the outside, the 2021 RX doesn’t look out of date, and the inside is kitted out with NuLuxe upholstery, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, LED ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen that can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch one, and a 9-speaker audio system. It also boasts the very Lexus-esque attention to detail and a calm, not-showy interior quality that most other brands overlook.
2021 Lexus RX Reliability
With a J.D. Power reliability rating of 87 out of 100 and a KBB reliability rating of 4.5 out of 5, we can see why Lexus is a renowned luxury marque for trustworthiness. Even considering the V6 engine options under the hood, RepairPal and CarEdge both say it will cost you a relatively small amount to keep on the road, while some owners have already put tens of thousands of miles on their models without a hiccup.
- Average Yearly Maintenance Cost: $550 (RepairPal)
- Est. Maintenance Cost During The First 10 Years: $7,862 (CarEdge)
- Total Recalls: 2; one for OCS sensors that may short-circuit, and one for a transport hook that may damage the fuel filler pipe in a crash.
2021 Lexus NX
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 88/100
The 2021 Lexus NX is available in six grades: the NX 300, the NX 300 F, the NX 300h, the NX 300 Luxury, the NX 300h Luxury, and the NX 300h F SPORT Black Line. Models that wear a 300 badge are equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four that kicks out 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque; models wearing the 300h badge get a 2.5-liter inline-four hybrid. The hybrid is far less powerful, with a total output of 194 horsepower, but you can get 31 combined mpg from it.
As the 2021 Lexus NX lineup is only coming up to five years old, the interior still looks good in the modern market. It is useful in typical Lexus ways, with a 60/40 split rear seat and Wi-Fi hotspot included, while an 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, a quality interior finish, and a 10-speaker sound system are all standard fare. If you opt for the Luxury or F Sport trims, you also get a larger navigation display (10.3 inches), better bolstering in the seats, and a power moonroof. For a plush and handy SUV, the $24,600 to $37,000 price range doesn’t seem too high.
2021 Lexus NX Reliability
The 2021 Lexus NX was given a 5-star safety rating by the NHTSA and was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ when it was released; today, there are still no safety recalls. It serves well as a posh family SUV that will see you the miles. Some owners have already put over 100,000 miles on their NXes with just simple maintenance.
Owners on KBB have given the 2021 Lexus NX a 4.8 out of 5 reliability rating to complement the overall rating of 4.5 out of 5, but it is worth noting that some owners have experienced problems with a glitching infotainment system and some sensor functions for safety features.

2025 Cadillac XT5
J.D. Power Reliability Rating: 88/100
Available in three trims: the base trim, the Luxury, and the Sport, the 2025 Cadillac XT5 has not only been rated very highly for reliability by its owners, but also overall. According to reviews of the Cadillac XT5 on KBB, owners have given it an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5, and owners on J.D. Power have given it a rating of 81 out of 100.
Last year’s XT5 only measures in at 189.6 inches in length by 74.9 inches wide (without mirrors), but you still get a healthy maximum cargo capacity of 63 cubic feet with the seats folded away. 2025 Cadillac XT5 Reliability

The turbo-four is an LSY unit, which has a pretty solid relationship with reliability, while the V6 engine is an LGX unit, which, again, is renowned for being pretty robust.
KBB owner reliability ratings for the 2025 Cadillac XT5 are good at 4.4 out of 5, but they are far more impressive on J.D. Power (88 out of 100). iSeeCars has also rated the one-year-old XT5 7.6 out of 10 for reliability, while annual repair costs are positively small hatchback-like, at just over $300 a year. Used prices may be relatively high still, at between $43,100 and $56,200, but you do get a very dependable and well-equipped luxury SUV for your money.
