BMW has pulled the wraps off the 2027 7 Series, and the seventh-generation flagship isn’t just a facelift — the automaker is calling it the most extensive model update it has ever attempted. More importantly, it’s the first luxury BMW to inherit the Neue Klasse playbook, meaning the tech debuting here will eventually trickle into every model wearing a roundel.

Four variants arrive at launch: the all-electric i7 50 xDrive and i7 60 xDrive, plus the combustion-powered 740 and 740 xDrive. A 483-hp 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid follows in Q1 2027, with a V8-powered M Performance model waiting in the wings. Production kicks off in July 2026 at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, with world premieres running simultaneously at Auto China 2026 in Beijing and a special event inside New York’s Grand Central Terminal.

The 2027 7 Series debuts BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, anchored by a projection surface that stretches across the full width of the windshield from A-pillar to A-pillar. Paired with a 17.9-inch free-cut Central Display and the new BMW Operating System X, it’s a complete rethink of how drivers interact with the flagship sedan.

Making its BMW debut as standard equipment, the 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Screen gives the front passenger their own high-definition playground. They can stream video, play games, or browse entertainment without a BMW ID login — and a built-in shield function keeps the content out of the driver’s line of sight.

The rear-seat 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen has been upgraded into a full entertainment hub. Passengers can stream in 8K, download apps through the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, play AirConsole games, and even take Zoom calls thanks to a newly integrated camera above the display.

The optional Executive Lounge package transforms the rear passenger side into a first-class cabin. An integrated leg rest, heated quilted armrest with glass insert, and coordinated backrest adjustment allow a torso angle of up to 43 degrees — essentially a business-class seat on wheels.

The standard B&W Surround Sound System packs up to 18 speakers and 575 watts, but the optional Diamond Surround system is the headliner: up to 36 speakers, 1,925 watts, Dolby Atmos support, and exciters built into the seat backs for 4D bass perception you can actually feel.

Material choices range from standard Veganza upholstery to BMW Individual Merino Leather paired with cashmere wool in the lower seat sections. Crystal glass controls for seat adjustment, glass applications on the start button and gear selector, and open-pored wood trim round out a cabin obsessed with tactile quality.

A new ambient light strip runs the full width of the cockpit, glowing with an alabaster texture by day and shifting into a moderately dynamic display after dark. Vertical light elements in the front seat backs extend the mood into the rear, while the Panoramic Skylounge LED roof scatters more than 40 LEDs across a quilted graphic pattern overhead.

The optimized automatic doors now use radar sensors hidden in the body to detect obstacles and approaching road users, opening and closing faster than before. A new Soft Close mechanism handles the final pull shut, and buttons integrated into the flush door handles work even with gloves on or icy conditions.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant now incorporates Amazon’s Alexa+ AI technology, bringing large language model capabilities into the cabin. Drivers can hold natural, dialogue-based conversations with the car to control functions, stream music, access news, or pull from external knowledge bases — launching first in Germany and the US.

For the first time, the 7 Series offers a digital interior mirror that switches between a traditional reflection and a camera feed mounted in the parcel shelf. It’s particularly useful when the Theater Screen is deployed, and BMW will offer it as a retrofit for earlier 2027 7 Series builds produced before November 2026.
