The KTM 890 Adventure R Rally is built for riders who refuse to stop when the dirt roads end. This bike is based on the mighty capable 890 Adventure R, but dials things up to eleven. That means the ability to conquer every terrain while still being comfortable enough to cover miles on other days. KTM says this is its most off-road-focused middleweight adventure bike.

The bike uses the same parallel-twin engine as the standard 890 Adventure, but it’s the other bits where it sets itself apart. You get WP Xplor Pro suspension taken from top-level competition models, along with heavy-duty wheels, a lightweight Akrapovic slip-on, and more. Everything on this bike is designed to make you go further than ever while blending the lines between ADVs and dirt bikes.

The 2027 KTM 890 Adventure R Rally starts at $22,649 plus $800 freight charges. That’s over $6,000 over the 890 Adventure R, which starts at $16,299. While that may seem expensive for a middleweight adventure bike, the bike justifies that price tag with what it offers. Although you might want to hurry because KTM is producing it in limited numbers.

Purpose-Built Hardware To Take Serious Off-Road Abuse

The KTM 890 Adventure R Rally features the same chromoly steel trellis frame as the standard bike, which holds the compact 889cc parallel-twin engine. Power figures are rated at 104 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 RPM. KTM doesn’t disclose whether it has made any changes to either the frame or the engine tuning, so we’ll assume it runs the same state of tune. Where it differs, however, is the suspension and other underpinnings.

The bike sits on top-spec WP Xplor Pro suspension that is built in collaboration with WP Factory Racing, and KTM says it’s designed to offer race-level control in the toughest terrains. The front fork uses a Cone Valve fork that allows for a segment-leading wheel travel of 10.63 inches. KTM claims this fork is razor-sharp sensitive with plenty of bottoming-out resistance when off-roading at pace. The fork is paired with a high-end steering damper to keep the front end locked in and stable.

At the back, the bike features a WP Xplor Pro PDS shock, featuring low-friction internals that are said to offer precise damping and stronger traction while reducing rider fatigue on long highway days. Both ends are fully adjustable, too, so you can fine-tune the suspension to your liking and as per the occasion.

The 890 Adventure R Rally uses high-strength Excel rims — 21 inches front and 18 inches rear — for proper off-roading. These rims are shod in Mitas Enduro Trail tube-type tires that KTM says offer better traction over loose and technical surfaces while offering maximum durability and impact resistance.

KTM has gone a step further to make the 890 ready for rally by tweaking its bodywork. The design and livery are inspired by the Dakar-winning KTM 450 Rally, with a front end that reflects a rally silhouette. The fairing sits on forged aluminum brackets that stiffen the cockpit. Meanwhile, the in-mold graphics resist wear and tear, while the high front fender keeps the wheel clear in muck.

Off-Road Focused Comfort And Tech Package

You can have the best hardware, but if the bike’s ergonomics don’t suit off-roading, what’s even the point? Fortunately, the 890 Adventure R Rally shouldn’t disappoint. It features a one-piece Rally seat that’s designed for off-roading, with a flat profile that should let you shift your weight quickly. The seat wears a grippy cover that is said to add control in any weather, and the tall 36-inch seat should make transitioning from sitting to saddling quick and easy.

Things that surround the seat are also designed with off-roading in mind. For instance, KTM says the tank spoilers and rear side panels are slightly wider than the seat, which should make riding easier and reduce wear on the seat. The fuel tank’s shape is kept slim to offer precise handling and control when standing on the pegs.

Speaking of pegs, the KTM 890 Adventure R Rally also uses the Factory Racing Footpeg Kit, which is said to be wider, sharper, and designed for aggressive off-roading. KTM says these pegs lock your boots in place while improving leverage for the rider, so you can direct the bike exactly where you want it to go.

A Comprehensive Tech Package To Go With

The bike features the Tech Pack as standard, with the Rally Mode sitting at the helm of it. This model offers 10 levels of wheel-slip control. You can also tweak the throttle response with two more modes: Street and Off-Road. To keep things manageable, the bike uses a six-axis IMU to enable off-road ABS with Off-Road and Rally modes, which reduces ABS intervention on the front and disables the rear ABS completely.

The bike also features other rider aids, including Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), which lets you get the most out of your machine without letting the rear end loose. Rounding out the package are Motor Slip Regulation, Quickshifter+, cruise control, and a 5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity.
