Pickup trucks are a worker’s best friend. They’re useful for carrying, towing, and hauling big loads of luggage whilst also having the all-terrain capabilities you’d expect in an SUV. Nowadays, pickup trucks come with advanced technological features as standard for easier driving and improved safety, as well as some luxury touches for added comfort and a nicer interior design.

Then there are the types of cars, called sleepers, where, although they look very much your average run-of-the-mill everyday car, they’ve got impressive performance statistics that may even give some performance cars a run for their money. There is certainly no shortage of sleeper pickup trucks, and on this list, we’ll be going through such cases of pickup trucks that look like ordinary workhorses but have surprisingly rapid performance.

All entries are sorted by their 0-60 mph time in descending order, from the slowest to the quickest.

The 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning is an all-electric alternative to arguably the most beloved pickup truck on the market. The Ford F-150 Lightning name was previously used in the performance pickup truck that first went into production in 1993, and, for better or for worse, the Ford F-150 Lightning has been given a new electrified meaning. Thanks to its instant acceleration, it’s no surprise then that the Lightning has got some decent pace.

Those of you with a strong desire to be the first off the line at every traffic signal will be pleased by the “lightning” quick throttle response. In my admittedly unscientific zero to 60 test runs, the Lightning’s speedometer consistently eclipsed sixty before I could count past one thousand four.

The Lightning’s Platinum Extended model is what enables this truck to reach 60 MPH in four seconds, which is quicker than the current Ford Mustang, and this is all thanks to the truck’s dual electric motors, which produce 580 horsepower and have a range of 300 miles. It’s also equipped with many safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Some of the Lightning’s competitors include the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, and they’re all much faster than the Ford F-150 Lightning. The R1T’s quad-motor variant is much quicker than the Lightning, doing zero-to-60 in 2.6 seconds, and even the Dual-Motor variant can do zero-to-60 in 3.4 seconds. It’s also the same story with the Tesla Cybertruck, with its Cyberbeast variant achieving a zero-to-60 time of 2.6 seconds. The Hummer EV Pickup also manages to do zero-to-60 in 3.3 seconds.

The Rivian R1T first went into production in 2022, and recently Rivian has introduced its game-changing Quad-Motor trim to the R1T and its SUV counterpart, the R1S, and it has done wonders for its performance.
