A management shakeup at Stellantis that started a year ago cost some valuable ground in the full-size truck battle, but the Ram brand is rebuilding — and not in a modest, incremental way.
Today, Ram announces the return of its “apex predator,” the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, billed as the fastest and most powerful production gas pickup truck in the world. Its interior also suggests the “muscle truck” could be one of the most lavish pickups around.
Ram Confirms New Dakota, But These Two Other Products Likely Come First
2026 Ram 1500 REV takes over for all-electric pickup, and how about a three-row range-extended SUV with a familiar name?
TRX Returns From Near Extinction
Ram promises 777 horsepower, 680 pound-feet of torque and a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds for this six-passenger crew cab half-ton pickup with a 5-foot-7-inch bed, built in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Top speed is listed at 118 mph.
Reigniting the Street and Racing Technology performance division in July was a clear signal that Ram would also revive the TRX aggressive off-roader that arrived in 2021 and departed three years later, leaving a 702-horsepower hole in the truck lineup.
Starting Price Of $102,590
When the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX goes on sale in the second half of 2026 with an eye-watering starting price of $102,590 (with destination charges), it will top the 720-horsepower Ford F-150 Raptor R. Ram’s press release doesn’t call out the Raptor R by name but claims an edge of 57 horsepower and 40 pound-feet over its “next nearest competitor.”
Leading this high-octane charge is Tim Kuniskis, who had retired from Stellantis for a hot minute before returning a year ago, now serving as head of American Brands, North America Marketing and Retail Strategy.
Hellcat Hemi With Massive Blower
Kuniskis ran SRT a decade ago, and the new TRX with its 35-inch tires on 18-inch satin black rims represents the first time since the 2006 SRT-10 that a Ram pickup wore an SRT badge.
When Kuniskis talks about “putting the band back together,” the lead singer probably would be the revived Hemi V8, which of course powers the 2027 SRT TRX with 6.2 liters of supercharged Hellcat fury. For those unable to shell out six figures for a high-flying truck, the workhorse 5.7-liter Hemi returns in the more mainstream 2026 Ram 1500, starting around $45,000.
Air Filter For Easy Cleaning
But if you can spare $103k, your 6.2-liter Hemi with updated engine management and new hardware also gets boost from a 2.4-liter twin-screw supercharger fed by a dual-path induction system drawing cool outside air through the grille and center-mounted hood scoop.
Ram says there’s a high-capacity radial air filter housed for easy access so it can be quickly cleaned of sand and other debris, while the induction system incorporates water relief flaps to drain water and filter out debris, helping the Hemi breathe easy.
More Than 13 Inches Of Travel
A TorqueFlite 8HP95 eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the full-time four-wheel drive system by way of a BorgWarner 48-13 active transfer case that offers a 2.64:1 low range for crawling. The driver can select from 4WD Auto, 4WD High (locked) and 4WD Low (locked).
The independent front suspension uses upper and lower A-arms and a stabilizer bar to accommodate 13 inches of front suspension travel. Out back, the five-link setup with a Dana 60 rear axle, full floating axle shafts and a rear electronic locking differential can travel up to 14 inches.
Underpinning both the front and rear are coil springs and the Bilstein e2 Blackhawk active performance shocks that debuted on the Ram 1500 RHO, which arrived in April 2024 with 540 horsepower as Ram’s high-speed off-roader, until now.
Borrowing Ram RHO Specs
Key dimensions are identical between the Ram 1500 RHO and the new SRT TRX: overall length (233.7 inches), wheelbase (145.1 inches), height (81.9 inches), width (88.0 inches), front track (74.4 inches), rear track (74.0 inches), front axle to ground (9.4 inches), rear axle to ground (7.4 inches) and open tailgate to ground 38.7 inches. It tips the scales at about 6,400 pounds.
We haven’t yet heard the new SRT TRX run at full song, but Ram promises the full stainless-steel dual-exhaust system with five-inch double-walled black tips will look and sound “sinister” and “leave no question as to what’s under the functional sport performance hood.”
Interior Suited For Off-Roading?
This much high-tech hardware underneath means Ram couldn’t skimp on the interior for the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, so you’ll find a cabin that delivers “unexpected luxury,” perhaps too much for a hardcore off-road enthusiast who wants to go muddin’ without soiling the black premium Natura Plus leather seats with perforated microsuede inserts.
There are loads of upscale standard features such as adaptive cruise control, hands-free active driving assist, drowsy driver detection and speed limit recognition to remind you about the potential ramifications of 777 horsepower underfoot.
Perhaps Too Much Frou-Frou
Also standard are heated, ventilated and reclining seats in both rows, while front occupants can also get a massage. Don’t forget the standard 19-speaker premium sound system, 360-degree camera, dual-pane sunroof, 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, full-color head-up display and dual wireless phone charging pads in the center console.
Other niceties include the genuine carbon-fiber trim, aluminum paddle shifters, microsuede headliner, leather-wrapped airbag cover and embroidered red TRX seatback logos.
The Hurricane-Powered Ram RHO Would Have Killed It If The Hellcat TRX Never Existed
Factually speaking, the Ram 1500 RHO is a better off-road truck than the TRX brute it replaces, yet, the Internet doesn’t seem to agree. Why?
A pickup truck stickering above $100k is serious money, but that’s just the starting point. There are optional equipment packages for bed utility, trailer-tow, trailer technology and TRX Bloodshot Night Edition with a glass-encased center console badge. We’ll find out pricing for those packages closer to launch.
Other options include the full-length Mopar rock rail, powder-coated aluminum running boards and the TRX graphics on the hood and bedside. The red, white and black Bloodshot paint job is optional.
TopSpeed’s Take
The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX was designed mechanically for rugged, off-road hijinks, but this pickup seems to have two personalities, with its perhaps incongruous frou-frou interior.
Clearly, Ram expects a lot of TRX customers to stay in suburbia or on the highway rather than putting that suspension to work, even though they can cycle through modes such as Tow, Mud/Sand, Rock, Snow, Sport, and Baja, perhaps just for fun. And there’s launch control, “engineered for closed-course environments.”
If you can afford the truck, you can probably handle filling the 33-gallon fuel tank with the required 91-octane premium gasoline, which will cost about $122 based on current average fuel prices.
