If it is true freedom you want on two wheels, an adventure bike would be a pretty good choice to make. They’re built tough, can carry a pillion and luggage for two, and can deal with a variety of situations, both on tarmac and off, without a hiccup. This means they make a very strong case as bikes for a single-bike garage if long rides are part of the brief.
Even if the long rides aren’t on the menu, the sheer comfort and performance that large adventure bikes bring to the table are difficult to ignore. They might get a little unwieldy in bad traffic, but that’s just about the only negative about them these days – even the seat heights are manageable these days. With this in mind, we’ve jotted down a list of ten adventure bikes that are all the motorcycle you’ll ever need. And we haven’t heeded the sticker price this time around.

Honda Africa Twin
Price: $15,799
The Africa Twin is the very definition of all the adventure bike you’ll ever need. It gets ‘only’ 100 horsepower despite being a full-size motorcycle, which is enough performance for the sane, among us. It doesn’t lack features, with a six-axis IMU, adjustable and switchable traction control, switchable ABS, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto packaged with a touchscreen TFT display. The stand-out feature is the six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, which has a manual mode as well as a ‘G switch’ that slips the clutch extra for low-speed work. The manual transmission gets a standard two-way quickshifter.

Moto Guzzi Stelvio
Price: $16,390
The Stelvio is like the Africa Twin, a full-size ADV that is priced more like a midsize one. Where it differs is that it is passed over quite a lot. It is also unique because of the longitudinal engine, while makes it easier for the shaft drive. Quite a few of its great features are optional, like the Bluetooth, navigation, and two-way quickshifter, but hey, choice is always good for the consumer! An extra $1,000 will get you the PFF variant with its radar-based cruise control.

Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE
Price: $16,449
The V-Strom 1050DE is a throwback ADV that uses a slightly heavy but large aluminum twin spar chassis. Another anachronism is the 21-inch front spoke rim that requires a tire with a tube, although the rear is a tubeless one. The V-twin engine is flexible, and is helped by a hydraulic assist and slipper clutch, by-wire throttle, ride mode, cruise control, and a two-way quickshifter. A six-axis IMU enables cornering traction control and ABS. Finally, a 5-inch TFT display offers Bluetooth and navigation.

Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition
Price: $16,499
The Norden 901 is the KTM 890 Adventure R with a touch of Swedish cool, and better refinement. The Norden 901 Expedition is the version that is more off-road ready thanks to suspension that has even more travel, but is still capable of touring. It is fully adjustable, too. We also appreciate the other standard additions, like the heated grips and seat, taller windshield, and better engine skid plate. Of course, it has the poke to make use of the chassis bits with its 105 HP and full electronics suite.

Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro
Price: $23,195
The Tiger series of motorcycles is known to be pretty good off-road despite the choice of an inline three-cylinder engine. The Tiger 1200 is a large touring-type ADV whose power might be too much for the ordinary person off-road, but it makes up for it with a very strong electronics suite. The T-Plane crankshaft also offers an excellent torque spread, while not compromising on power. It is assisted by a standard assist and slipper clutch and two-way quickshifter. Other features like semi-active suspension that can be lowered, an aluminum fuel tank, a by-wire throttle with ride modes, and a six-axis IMU all better the experience.

Ducati Multistrada V4 S
Price: $28,995
The Multistrada has quite a few different avatars, but the most well-rounded of them is possibly the V4 S. It has the Granturismo engine with a counterrotating crankshaft, twin-pulse firing order that gives it better torque, and rear cylinder deactivation that makes life aboard a Multistrada V4 S better. There is also semi-active electronic suspension with remote preload adjustment, Brembo brakes with a radial master cylinder, and a 5-inch TFT color display.
